TOP ITALIAN WINES ROADSHOW 2016/2017

This is a special year for Gambero Rosso, now celebrating 30 years of success. Its best-known tour, the Top Italian Wines Roadshow, is in its tenth edition. Over 60 wineries come together annually to penetrate the globe’s most complex markets, opening commercial routes and bringing knowledge of Italy’s unmatchable grape patrimony to new generations of consumers. Tasting tables presenting over 200 wines are not the whole story. The cities we visit have never seen comparable tours – the program is enriched with at least three seminars per event. The itinerary covers the whole season, with the entire Italian winery scene getting together to promote itself around the world, backed up by intense communication and training projects. In 2007, the year of the tour’s first edition, exports of Italian wine amounted to 3.45 billion euros. In 2015, they amounted to more than 5.4 billion. The first five months of 2016 show a new increase of 3.7% in value, according to ISTAT (Italian National Institute of Statistics), a number unmatched on the Italian economic panorama.

The key protagonist in the tenth edition of the tour is Asia, the great challenge for Italian wine. The tour begins in Taipei on November 7, a follow up on the brilliant success of our event two years ago. It then moves on to Osaka, a classic stop for the Roadshow: this Japanese culinary hub attracts operators from all the southern and central areas of the country. The third stop on the tour recognizes a market that is shifting gears: Cape Town, on December 1, sees the first Gambero Rosso visit to Africa. On March 8, another new entry: a stop in Hanoi, Vietnam, is on the calendar. The goal is to position Italian wine ahead of a market that is showing important signs of development and strong interest in Italian labels. On March 10, we move on to Singapore, one of the safe harbors for quality Italian wine. Sydney comes next, a distant market, but faithful to Italian wine, with a loyal community and restaurateurs who do immense work in the search for typical and authentic products.
