全球橄欖油的消費量在近25年之間大幅成長了73%,也改變了許多國家的飲食習慣。根據統計,全球每年的橄欖油消費量超過29億公斤,義大利以5億8千1百萬公斤的消費量排名世界第一,西班牙則以4億9百萬公斤居次。橄欖油對於人體健康的益處,以及大眾對其的認識使得全球橄欖油消費量年年增加,而橄欖油也在所謂的地中海飲食當中扮演非常重要的角色,地中海飲食並於2010年被UNESCO聯合國教科文組織登錄在非物質文化遺產名單之列。而根據經濟部國貿局的統計數據,本年度前10個月台灣進口橄欖油達2700萬美元,其中義大利橄欖油進口額達1300萬美元之多,市佔率達49.61%,排名所有橄欖油進口供應國第一。

The global consumption of olive oil has a growth of 73% in the last 25 years, which has also changed the diets of many countries around the world. According to statistics, a total of 2.99 billion kg of olive oil was consumed annually, with Italy ranking at the top with 581 million kg, followed by Spain with 490 million kg. While the Bureau of Foreign Trade of Taiwan's data also shows that Taiwan has imported a total of 27 million dollars of olive oil in the first 10 months of 2016, with 13 million dollars of olive oil from Italy, a share of 49.61% which tops the ranking.
