Luxottica, the Italian specs maker and owns brands such as Ray Ban and Oakley, is to merge with Essilor, a French lenses producer. The joint entity is set to combine Italian style with French engineering, and the deal shall be completed by the end of the year, creating a new entity with a market value of 46 billion euros, 140,000 staff and annual revenues of 15 billion euros.
According to the statistics of Bureau of Foreign Trade of Taiwan, Taiwan imported a total of 64 million US$ of sunglasses, frames and mountings for spectacles from January to October of 2016. Italy was the second largest supplier of the category for Taiwan with a share of 27,7%, behind China which had a share of 28,1%. While in terms of sunglasses, Italy was the leading supplier of Taiwan in the same period with a share of 54%.
